David Elder

David Ray Elder LUBBOCK-David Ray Elder passed away Thursday, July 30, 2015, after a lengthy battle with cancer. We will gather for fellowship and remembrance today, Aug. 2, 2015, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life of 69 years on Monday, Aug. 3, 2015, at 10 a.m. at Lake Ridge Baptist Church, 4601 82nd Street, Lubbock, TX, 79424. David was born on Feb. 19, 1946, to Grady and Zenobia Burchfield Elder in Slaton, Texas. He served his country as a patriot in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War from 1965-1968. On Feb. 14, 1970, David married the love of his life, Cindy Dubose in Lubbock, Texas. David began his career as grocery manager for Piggly Wiggly in 1968. He moved on to Acosta Sales and Marketing as sales person and retired after 36 years of service. He served his community as volunteer fire fighter with the Slaton Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years. David was a faithful servant of God and served as a Deacon of WestView Baptist Church, Slaton, Texas, and more currently as a member of Lake Ridge Baptist Church. David was an avid golfer, proud Red Raider supporter and a season ticket holder for 25 years of Texas Tech football. Survivors include his wife, Cindy Elder; their children, Tamora Vorheis and husband, John, Kyra Newberry and husband, Todd, Dain Elder and wife, Christina; grandchildren, Ashtyn and Kierstyn Mennenga, Kamron, Addyson, and Tyler Newberry; and sister, Martha Rasmussen, and husband, Wayne. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Grady Elder, Jr.; sister, Nana Lou Ethridge.
